Five Forms of Text

1. Books. This is one of the older and more common examples, and usually the first thing that comes to mind when we think of text.
2. Labels. They are on everything, and used to tell us things like ingredients, nutritional content, prices, parts included, and so much more.
3. Symbols. These are used on bathroom doors, street signs, etc. Although they may not be words, they still clearly communicate a point to us.
4. Magazines. These are similar to books in that they are distributed in print, but they contain more images and often have articles written by a variety of authors.
5. Status Updates. These could be on Facebook, Twitter, etc., and are composed for our friends. Rather than mailing them off, we can now click and share with as many people as we would like digitally.
All of these demonstrate the idea of text being alive because they are meant to be shared. Books are meant to pass knowledge or a story to another, labels and symbols give information, magazines are subscribed to and mailed out, and status updates go out to everyone we know. All of these create relationships among people.
