Building a national literature

Newspaper were essentially targeted towards political parties in the early 19th century. Most newspapers would rely on politics to get their paper out there to create more publicity for themselves. This meant that not a lot of work was being created for most people so they turned to editing.

Newspaper became popular in the early 1800’s when the government required higher communication positions such as the press to make sure everything was ran smoothly and was organized. They wanted to make sure that no errors were made and that they had everything they needed. This is when the newspaper got very accessible and when majority of people started to actually read the newspaper.

The loose copyright laws were cultivated by a culture of reprinting which made the American reading public the biggest and most modern date in the Western region. America was not initially acknowledged for generating skillful work of literature but that is something mostly everybody knows. However that does not mean that some work is not considered real literature because there are some great samples of work that pertains to good literature.

While I was reading this information, I was very shocked but excited at the same time. The fact that newspapers have come such a long way is amazing. There are so many different Newspaper companies in America and to think it all started off being made and sold from practically nothing. The world is evolving and so is leisure reading and newspapers.

How did the different categories in the newspaper throughout the early 1800 and 1900’s differ from today’s categories? In the newspaper today, there are sections for jobs, ads, breaking news, politics etc. How did the newspaper back then organize their columns? What were the different columns that they had?
