Remnants of Manuscript Culture

What, if any, remnants of manuscript culture remain? And what, if any, effects do those remnants have on the way we read, write, and produce texts?

1. reading primer --> that form still exists although not the same. Literacy is taught to children in the same way. It's more alike than the same. Both in textual form and in the sound that text technology tried to transmit to people.
2. reading primer --> shows up in other contexts for other reasons: see the missal in Church.
3. personal book --> people creating their own works from start to finish
4. self-publishing --> self publishing is a commonplace: blog posts as one example; self-published books that result in book contracts; social media posts that result in book contracts
5. book conventions --> although the ways we signal speakers change (no longer use color), we do use quotation and indention
6. portable texts --> we still create portable texts
7. handwriting --> in some cases, for some occasions, hand writing and handdrawing can still be a vialbe writing resource. see: http://theveganstoner.blogspot.com/

Counterpoint --> contemporary writing can be more visceral, requiring less planning. We put less thought into writing, because there are more writing resources (like paper) available to contemporary writers.
